A Valance Sheet To Help With Storage?

You can use a valance sheet to help with storage in your bedroom…

Like any remodelling or room furnishing project, planning a good bedroom layout is the key to enjoying your own little space at home. Buying a fully-furnished home will not give you much option to create the place according to your own style. You can recreate it for a price; but it would not be too wise for your money. Definitely a bedroom needs a closet, some cabinets, a bed, and a dresser but you can be a little creative with a valance sheet as we shall demonstrate.

However, for a limited space, these furniture pieces would not fit in so some shoes and clothes that will not have storage will just be piled or left hanging in a certain area of the bedroom. But while space is truly an issue, maximising a tiny area is call for creativity and skills. This is where Japanese are popular.

So how would you turn your small room into a very useful space that can store all your stuff? Well, first, use your under bed as a storage area; second buy a bed-end chest or a multiple drawer instead of small cabinets; third, consider using a multi-purpose dresser; and fourth construct low and wide drawers for bulky items.

Under-bed Storage
Your under-bed can store boxes, luggage, shoes, and other items that need storage but it can look messy. You can ask a carpenter to construct useful drawers underneath your bed or you could just simply store items by putting them under bed. Or, you could buy a lift-up bed, which the whole slatted base can be lifted for storage purposes. Out-of-season blankets, quilts, duvets and curtains can be stored in this type of bed. The right size valance sheet can really help keep your under the bed storage nice and tidy.

There are other options though which don’t rely on a valance sheet

Bed-End Chest
A bed-end chest may occupy space but store out-of-season items so the room is free clutter and will have more space for other stuff. Aside from storage, the chest can serve as a seat or a shelf for books and other small items. While small cabinets may be helpful, they will take too much of your room space; thus might not be too wise in terms of space saving.

Multiple-Purpose Dresser
A multiple purpose dresser can function as storage for underwear and other small bedroom essentials; as a dresser itself; and as a study table. In some contexts, dressers are built-in or wall-fixed to save more space.

Constructing low and wide drawers is very possible if the built-in closet is not yet done. Normally, these drawers are at the very bottom of the closet where bulky items like towels, thick blankets and bags are stored. However, if closet is already made and the floor’s space is limited, then buying a tall cabinet will help solve the problem. If this is the scenario for you then perhaps the valance sheet idea may work for you.
